If you thought Zachary Levi doesn’t know his Shazam history, then think again! In a recent appearance at Heroes & Villains Fanfest, the actor gave his thoughts on his upcoming role as Captain Marvel in Shazam.
When talking about the tone of the upcoming movie, Levi talked about the work James Gunn and company did for Guardians of the Galaxy, and compared it to that…
“It brought so much heart and humor and yeah, I think it was kind of like this dark horse that took everybody by storm and I think Shazam kind of has the possibility to do that because Shazam’s not, for all intents and purposes, not Supes it’s not Batman, it’s not Wonder Woman, it’s not what people expect.”
Not only did he make those comments, but as it turns out, the man knows his Shazam history. He went on to explain what Geoff Johns and company were trying to do with characters in the New 52 like Shazam. He explained that the purpose was to differentiate the characters enough, that they weren’t carbon copies of one another. For example making Shazam different from Superman.
He even mentioned the lawsuit between DC Comics and Fawcett over Shazam’s similarity to Superman. It seems that Levi is super excited to be playing Shazam, and that is exciting to see. A DC film about magic has enormous possibilities.
